Scott Smallwood is a sound artist who enjoys working with a wide variety of electronic and acoustic materials, particularly real-world sound and field recordings. His work has involved improvising as a percussionist, a laptop performer, and a performer of the Trinidadian steel drum. He is one-half of the laptop duo Evidence, performs dance music under the name sCAUGHT, and enjoys writing structured improvisations for traditional and non-traditional performance ensembles. He has released recordings on the Deep Listening and Wavelet Records imprints, and his work has been presented internationally in festivals, conferences, museums, clubs, coffee shops, swimming pools, rooftops, and dive bars. He is currently studying sound and composition at Princeton University. http://music.princeton.edu/~skot

Newton Armstrong is trying to get his laptop to breathe and throb. After a few years of focussed work developing software, hardware, and a provisional performance practice, his laptop twitches irregularly. http://music.princeton.edu/~newton

| modus |
Modus formed in 2002 when three Rutgers University jazz majors started meeting to play
their original experimental jazz compositions. Since then they have been gathering an
underground following playing bars, clubs, galleries, house parties, and coffeehouses
in the New York/New Jersey area. In the tradition of Ornette Coleman, Ken Vandermark,
John Zorn and others, Modus features tight arrangements, free-wheeling improvisations
and deep grooves. Accordingly, Modus appeals to both hardcore jazz fans as well as
rock fans with an ear for the unusual.
Chris Welcome (guitar), Daniel Stark (alto saxophone), Shayna Dulberger (bass), Jesse Fischer (drums).
