Alessandro Bosetti: (Born 1973, Milan) Soprano saxophone in several ensembles of improvised and experimental music as well as composing and leading interdisciplinary projects in acoustic art. Has performed with Annette Krebs, Michel Doneda, Axel Doerner and Peter Kowald among many others. Developed the musicality of spoken words and unusual aspects of spoken communication and produced text-sound compositions featured in live performances, radio broadcastings and recordings for labels of experimental music. Moves on the line between sound anthropology and composition. Field research and interviews often build the basis for abstract compositions. As a saxophonist has developed an instrumental language that incorporates extended techniques, noises, and a strong influence from electronic music. Dan Trueman plays and composes for a variety of violins, including the
6-string electric violin, the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, and the
Bowed-Sensor-Speaker-Array (BoSSA: an instrument of his own design and
construction). His electronic improvisation ensemble "interface" (with
Curtis Bahn and Tomie Hahn) has performed widely; their first CD, "./swank,"
was released by c74 Records in early 2001, and this past December they
released a DVD of improvisations and dance pieces"Recording Field, H"with
guest Pauline Oliveros, on the Deep Listening label. His duo "Trollstilt"
(with guitarist Monica Mugan) released its first CD of original tunes in
2000, inspired by his activities as a traditional Hardanger fiddler, and has
performed widely at both contemporary music festivals (such as the
Bang-on-a-Can Marathon) and folk music festivals (in Norway and the US). As
a composer of concert music, Dan recently completed commissions from the
American Composers Forum (Hardanger fiddle and orchestra), the Society for
New Music (electronic chamber ensemble), and the Tarab Cello Ensemble (8
cellos). He teaches composition and electronic music at Princeton
University.

Internationally acclaimed contrabass performer, improviser, and composer Mark Dresser operates at the cusp between jazz, contemporary classical, improvisation and composition. He has recorded over one hundred CDs including those with Ray Anderson, Anthony Braxton, Jane Ira Bloom, Tim Berne, Gerry Hemingway, Anthony Davis, Dave Douglas, Osvaldo Golijov, Joe Lovano and many others. As a leader he has recorded twenty projects including his electroacoustic trio, quintet, silent film music, solo bass repertoire, and chamber music. A chapter on his extended techniques for contrabass, "A Personal Pedogogy," appears in the book, ARCANA.
He studied with Bertram Turetzky at the University of California, San Diego where he received B.A. and M.A. degrees. In 1983 he received a Fulbright to Italy to study with Franco Petracchi. In 1985 he joined the Anthony Braxton Quartet, documented in Graham Locke's book "Forces in Motion" and several significant recordings.
He received a 2003 Grammy nomination, NYFA grants, Meet the Composer commissions, a McKim Fund at the Library of Congress commission, and commissions from sculptor Robert Taplin and flutist Matthias Ziegler. He is currently a lecturer in music at Princeton University, and faculty at the New School University and Hampshire College.

Gerry Hemingway has been making a living as a composer and performer of solo and ensemble music since 1974. He has led numerous groups, most recently his quartet with Ellery Eskelin, Ray Anderson and Mark Dresser as well collaborative groups with Mark Helias & Ray Anderson (BassDrumBone), Reggie Workman & Miya Masaoka (Brew), Georg Graewe & Ernst Reijseger (GRH trio), Marilyn Crispell & Barry Guy (CGH trio), duo w/Thomas Lehn, duo w/John Butcher and many others. Mr. Hemingway is a Guggenheim fellow and has received numerous commissions for chamber and orchestral work including "Terrains", a concerto for percussionist and orchestra commissioned by the Kansas City Symphony.
