History and Physical

Jennifer Mesch was a self-taught dancer until she started studying contemporary dance at age 18 and ballet at 23. She went on to receive a BA in dance from Western Michigan University where she was awarded the Dorothy U. Dalton Dancers with Musicians Scholarship for choreography. She has choreographed over 50 works for dance performance and avant-garde theater. She is artistic director of the Jen Mesch Dance Conspiracy in which she collaborates with artists, architects, scientists and engineers. She frequently educates non-dancers by involving them in dance performance and production in response to the common statement, "I don't understand dance." She has performed with choreographers KJ Holmes, Penny Hutchinson, Jack Magai, Erin Malley, Jennifer Monson, Kelly Schornak and Estelle Woodward. She teaches dance improvisation, composition, technique and history in a variety of settings and works as a freelance dance and theater critic. Recently, more of her work consists of improvising with musicians and video artists.
